I don’t have enough words to describe all the cuteness that came to life during this engagement session! First of all, Rachel and David are high school sweethearts who have been dating since their sophomore year! Then you add in the most adorably fluffy Samoyed that you just want to squeeze and it’s just the most precious family you’ll ever see!! Plus, matching flower crowns handmade by Rachel?! I mean, come on!

I met Rachel, David, and Kira when I hosted mini sessions in the Boston Public Garden last fall. When I first decided to offer mini sessions, I was a little nervous to put myself out there because I wasn’t sure if anyone would respond and then much to my surprise, I had a full day of shooting and met some of the most amazing couples and families! These three being one of them!! And then flash forward to April, when David proposed to Rachel and they asked me to be their wedding photographer – I was beyond excited!! Next May can’t come soon enough!

In the beginning of July, Rachel and David came over to my apartment to chat about their wedding day and plan their engagement session (I’m still a little upset they didn’t bring Kira along). Rachel told me she wanted matching flower crowns for her and Kira like she saw from Jo and Mike’s Beacon Hill engagement session and my heart about skipped a beat. I could just see the cuteness coming to life! Then we started brainstorming locations and when I mentioned that I’ve always wanted to shoot at Rock Meadow in Belmont, Rachel and David said they always take Kira for walks there, so it was meant to be! We picked a date AND a rain date because Rachel said “with their luck, it will rain” (and that right there is where we got jinxed!).

The day came to meet for their engagement session and the forecast looked great! It was calling for some rain between 2-4pm, which was fine because we weren’t meeting until 6:45pm and there was only a 10% chance of rain between 6-8pm. On my drive over to Belmont, it was overcast and cloudy (my dream come true for perfect lighting!). We met at Rachel’s cousin’s house and then walked over to Rock Meadow. We only made it about 5 minutes into the meadow when it started sprinkling, so we hid under a tall tree thinking the rain would pass in a few minutes. The sun started to come out, so it appeared like it was going to be one of those quick sunny, summer showers. But, we were wrong. The next thing we knew, the heavens opened up and it was pouring! So after quickly realizing that it wasn’t going to pass, we all ran out of the meadow, dripping wet and muddy! Kira was no longer white, but was having the time of her life running in the rain! It kept raining that hard for the next 45 minutes, so as it turns out, we needed that rain date afterall!

When we met the following week for engagement session take 2, everything went perfectly! The weather was gorgeous, the fields were overflowing with wild flowers, and Rachel even recreated by herself the flower crowns that the florist made the previous week. I had such a blast hanging out with these three and love the pictures we captured of their love! It’s the best when clients become friends and that’s definitely the case with Rachel and David. I’m so honored that I get to be a part of their wedding day next year!

A big thank you to Rachel’s cousin, Anna and her boyfriend David, who were both the biggest help carrying flower crowns, bug spray, blocking the sunlight, and basically helping with all the things we needed them to do! And to David for saving us after the first engagement session fail in the rain by driving the car to pick us up!

Without further adieu, here are my favorites from Rachel, David, and Kira’s engagement session at Rock Meadow in Belmont!

Sometimes it takes a village to photograph an engagement session! Thanks Anna and David!! Couldn’t have done it without your help! 🙂
