The Importance of Capturing Milestones in Year One: Perspective From a Family Photographer

So many sweet moments happen in the first year. You go from feeling those kicks in your belly to your little one kicking on the outside before you know it. They change so quickly and go from being a sleepy newborn to so smiley infant in a matter of weeks right before your eyes. That’s why capturing your family photos at all different stages is one of my biggest joys. These photos we’ll capture together show just how much your baby has grown and changed throughout the year, and that’s something that you’ll cherish forever.

Maternity Photos

A maternity session is all about honoring the time before your baby arrives and changes your life forever. You’re growing life and that’s something that deserves to be celebrated, documented, and remembered forever! It’s such a special time in your life and even if you don’t think you look or feel your best, I promise you’ll look back at these images fondly. Newborn Photos

I’m not gonna lie, the newborn stage can feel chaotic. Of course there are the sweet baby snuggles and the tiny smiles. But let’s face it – it’s a lot of long nights and a lot of being super tired. The days feel long but the weeks go by fast! Before you know it, your little one has changed so quickly right before your eyes.

The newborn stage will go by way too fast. Freezing those moments in time is a must because one day it will be so hard to remember how tiny your baby’s hand was against your chest or just how little they were in your arms. These will be your first family photos and one day, it will be hard to imagine your baby was ever that little. You can view tips on how to prepare for your newborn session here!

6-9 Month Photos

6-9 month photos are so much fun! Your babies are chunky, full of thigh rolls, and cheeky smiles. They can sit up and their laugh is so cute! Their personality has really started to develop. They’re still so small, but this baby stage is prime-time for those fun, absolutely adorable shots that really showcase your baby’s adorableness. This is truly one of my favorite times to photograph your little ones.

First Birthday Photos

And the final session in your baby’s first year of life is their first birthday photos! You have survived a whole year of parenthood and your baby is ONE! They have grown so much in a year and celebrating that with a photoshoot is a must! Plus, who doesn’t love those precious cake-smashing pictures where they get icing everywhere?! You can bring props like balloons, cake, a birthday crown. Your baby deserves to be celebrated and cake smash sessions are truly so much fun!

Bump-to-Baby

My bump-to-baby package is a bundle focused on capturing maternity and newborn photos. Having both of these times documented is so special and is a great way to show the full journey of your pregnancy: your baby in your belly and then freshly out. 

Everything that’s included in my Bump-to-Baby package:

• One maternity session and one newborn session
• Photos taken on your choice of weekday, Monday – Thursday
• Up to 10 miles of travel (any more will require a travel fee, based on distance!)
• 50-70 images per session
• Unlimited digital downloads of final high-resolution images via an online shareable gallery

When you book a Bump-to-Baby package, you’re documenting the sweet memories of your baby on the inside and outside. Your maternity session preserves the peaceful moments before your life changes forever by adding a little one to your family. Then, the newborn session documents the first moments as a new little family. We’ll capture your baby’s tiny feet and hands. You’ll always be able to look back on how different your life was at these two different seasons of life and see just how special each gallery of images is.

Baby-to-First Birthday

My baby-to-first birthday package is all about your babe’s entire first year of life from the moment they enter the world to the time that you celebrate their first birthday! This one is so special to capture and to look back on how much your little one has changed over their first year of life.

• A newborn session and a first birthday family session
• Photos taken on your choice of weekday, Monday – Thursday

With the Baby-to-First Birthday package, you’re capturing those sweet little first moments spent with your baby in the newborn days. First Year Collective Package 

If you’re anything like me, you need ALL the photos! That’s why I offer a First Year Collective package as a family photographer! If you want every milestone in your baby’s first year documented, then this package is perfect for you! This collection includes a maternity session, a newborn session, a 6-9 month milestone session, and a first birthday session. Especially now that I’m a mom too, this is one of my favorite packages as a Boston family photographer. Working with you over the course of a year to capture each milestone is truly such a joy!

• One petite maternity session (30 minutes, 30 final images)
• One newborn session (1 hour, 60 final images)

The First Year Collective is my favorite collection! Being able to compare your baby at every stage from growing inside of you all the way to walking is so special. Seeing how they looked at their newborn stage versus their six-month stage, then comparing it again to them at their first birthday is wild. This is the package that freezes each of those memories in time, and trust me, that’s something that’s so worth it.

Q: Can our dogs be in the photos? 

A: The answer is always yes! As a family photographer, I want to capture every member of your family, and that includes your pup! 

Q: Where will we take photos for each session? 

A: Your photos can be taken wherever you’d like. Most families will choose an at-home session or studio session, but we can work together to find the perfect location for you! Read this blog post if you need help deciding!

Q: How long does it take to get photos back? 

A: I always send out sneak peeks 1-2 days after your session, but your full galleries will be delivered within 3 weeks of your session!
